Rome the Eternal City
Rome the Eternal City
Sofia Airport take-off for Rome the eternal city. I have been planning a trip to Rome for a long time and this moment came in January 2020. This ancient city was founded more than 2800 years ago, according to the legend of the two brothers Remul and Rom. You will often hear it called the Eternal City.
Rome the eternal city – Architecture
This is a majestic city where culture and traditions are combined with modern and contemporary buildings. I am amazed at how well so many architectural sights have been preserved during all these wars and epochs. The whole appearance of Rome is determined by Roman architecture. Another romantic city that attracts in a similar way is Amsterdam, Netherlands. If you are interested, see my post about Amsterdam.
Historical atmosphere
The capital of Italy, or as it is called Rome the eternal city, impresses not only with a wonderful historical atmosphere that takes you back to the era of gladiators, but also with some of the greatest landmarks of Italy. I was most impressed by the Trevi Fountain. It is one of the most famous and preferred by visitors of Rome. Since I want to return to the Eternal City one day, as the ritual dictates, I also throw a coin into the fountain. Don’t forget to throw a coin when you visit this cultural landmark.
Michelangelo masterpieces
Piazza del Campidoglio or more one of Michelangelo’s most incredible masterpieces is located in Rome the eternal city. It is bordered by three buildings-The Palazzo Senatorio, the Palazzo dei Conservatori and the Palazzo Nuovo. I was impressed by the overall beauty. Another great landmark that adorns the streets of the Eternal City is the Fountana dei Quattro Fiumi designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. For me, this is an exceptional cultural heritage.
The Vatican Museum
The Vatican Museum collects some of the world’s greatest masterpieces that visitors can admire with interest. I liked how I met a group of young children who told me how they spend their History and Civilization classes at the museum to learn more about their culture, civilization and predecessors. But the thing that impressed me most about this museum was the hall of maps of the world. The Vatican is a magical place that I would definitely go back to see again.
Cheat Day
Because I love chocolate, of course I did not miss the opportunity to enter one of the best sweet shops for gourmet chocolate. The scent of this sweet temptation wafted through the streets of Rome and attracted me like a magnet. I highly recommend to try this chocolate when you visit Italy. You can eat such delicious ice cream in Amsterdam. If you are interested, you can also see my post about Amsterdam, Netherlands.
Unique Italian
Rome is one of the Italian cities known for some of the best liqueurs in the world. Here you can taste one of the best limoncello. While walking, I saw this small beautiful shop that sold liqueurs for absolutely every taste. Of course, small coquettish restaurants in Rome are not excluded. They offer not only unique Italian delicacies, but also a cozy atmosphere. Here I tried one of the best artichoke dishes.
